Is this for real?

Yes! We have secured the former Folio location and are working on, well, everything else. 

Where are you in the process?

We are currently prioritizing our start-up funds. We have started to update the store with necessary repairs, deep cleaning, new fixtures, and a fresh coat of paint.

How much money do you need?

We are looking to raise $150,000 through public fundraising.

What will you use donations for?

Our most imminent costs are store maintenance and fixtures/bookshelves. Our building is old and in need of a LOT of TLC, from fixing leaks to deep cleaning to a fresh coat of paint. We will also use funds for initial inventory and staffing: two things we cannot open without.

As a for-profit bookstore, we are only asking for donations for start-up costs, not ongoing costs. Please email us at noevalleybookstore@gmail.com if you have more specific questions.

Who is running this bookstore?

Katerina Argyres, former Folio Books co-owner, is opening this bookstore with additional help from former staff members Andrew McIntyre, Isaiah Scandrette, and Kit Fitzgerald.

How can I help besides donating?

Financial support is our current priority. Otherwise, help us spread the word! Please share our GoFundMe page with everyone you know. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook, too! We are now accepting donations of used books, which we will sell at a massive discount, and proceeds will go toward the fundraiser.

What is the bookstore called?

Our current priority is setting up a sustainable, functional bookstore. We are working on branding this lovely new store. We look forward to sharing it with you! 

When is the bookstore opening?

There is much to do and we’re working as fast as we can! Our plan is to open fall of 2024.

Why are you starting over as a new bookstore? What happened to Folio Books?

Folio Books served the Noe Valley community for a decade. After that incredible milestone, four of the five owners voted to close/liquidate for personal reasons and took a step back from the industry. We ask that you please respect the privacy of former Folio owners on this matter. 

Our remaining team members are dedicated to bookselling in Noe Valley. Creating a new entity was the best way forward, and we are excited to continue the legacy of a bookstore at 3957 24th Street. Like many brand-new small businesses, we need start-up capital to bring a bookstore back to our community, and very much appreciate your help in doing so!
